What happens when the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport meets the last Dodge Viper and the new uber-sporty Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG? Well, for one thing, Jeff has a very good day, indeed. I got to drive all three of these cars at the recent Run to the Sun event, organized by the Northwest Automotive Press Association.
Driving all three of these great powerhouse cars in one day was instructive as well as fun. Each car brings its own personality and qualities to the game, and I got to look at each of them from a range of muscular automotive perspectives.
OK, I can hear the chorus getting ready to grouse - These are not strictly apples-to-apples comparable cars. For one thing, the Mercedes-Benz will cost you $203,000 as driven. That's almost enough to buy one each of the other three cars. OK, fair enough, I know these are kinda different cars. But just as one can enjoy both bacon and eggs together with a glass of orange juice, the excellence of one thing does not diminish the enjoyment of a different good thing.
Before we go any further, I'll reveal the ending. This is a Corvette site and I'm a Corvette enthusiast, so of course I liked the Corvette best. No one will be surprised by that, but I'll justify it for you.
