The fuel injection option was first offered on the 283 cubic inch and then the 327 cubic inch engine starting in 1962. The 1957 "Fuelie" was offered in 250 or 283 horsepower, and horsepower ratings for the injected engine rose to 290 for 1958, 250 or 290 for 1959, 275 or 315 horsepower for 1960 and 1962, and finally 360 horsepower with the advent of the C2 in 1963. Fuel-injected power was raised to 375 in 1964 and 1965.
This was also the first year for an available 4-speed manual transmission option. A 3-speed manual remained standard, and an optional 2-speed Powerglide automatic was available.
