GM has announced a recall affecting over 6000 model year 2011 and 2012 Corvette hardtops. The recall is for a defect in the rear hatch hinges. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the Corvette's rear hatch hinges may not meet the load requirements specified in the safety standard, and could separate in the event of a crash.
GM is already notifying the owners (about 5700 in the United States, and several hundred in Canada) of the recall, and dealers will replace the hinges free of charge on affected cars. If you have questions, you may call Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438.
