Just in time for the holidays, our friends at Motorbooks have come up with two great new books - the first is Weekend Projects for Your Classic Corvette 1953-1982. This book has 52 projects for your older Corvette - the idea is to have one for each weekend in a calendar year. The author is Tom Benford, who has a tremendous number of Corvette and general purpose automotive books to his credit. The how-to projects are well-written and photographed, and this book is going to get very greasy in my hands before the About.com Project Corvette is finished!
The second new book from Motorbooks is Life is a Highway - A Century of Great Automotive Writing. I'm a sucker for these books - compendiums of great short stories about cars and the automotive lifestyle. Although it's not Corvette-oriented per se, the collection includes writings by Zora Arkus-Duntov, and that ought to be the end of the discussion with any Corvette fanatic. Of course, there's also work from luminaries as varied as Stephen King, Hunter S. Thompson, and J. Edgar Hoover. Yes, that J. Edgar Hoover. This book is a perfect stocking stuffer for any car enthusiast.
Finally, I was doing my usual rooting through the bargain box at a used bookstore and I found a vintage copy of Corvette - A Piece of the Action for just $5. If you find yourself in the dusty stacks of any used bookstore, make sure you take time to check the automotive section, because the Corvette is one of the most written-about cars in history, and you might find something vintage and wonderful for the vintage and wonderful Corvette enthusiast on your list.
