Oil Cans and FiltersIf you're like most of us, all of the codes and standards that they print on a case of engine oil might as well be written in hieroglyphics - all we know is that our cars take 10W30 grade, or maybe 20W50.

But the API grade on your engine oil is a critical matter - your new (2004+) Corvette needs the latest SM grade oil, but your older Corvette needs a different oil to protect its camshaft and lifters against wear. How can you be sure you're getting the right stuff?

I asked that question to the oil experts at Royal Purple, and I got a quick primer on how to read your oil can. It's interesting information that just might save your engine or your emissions system!
