Corvette sales in June of 2010 were almost the same as sales in June of 2009. Dealers delivered 1,405 Corvettes over the 25 sales days of the month, compared to 1,396 in June of last year. Year to date in 2010, total Corvette sales have been 6,355, compared to 7,498 for the same period last year, a 15.2% decrease.
But in the middle of the worst recession since the 1930s, that's not bad performance, especially when you note that overall, sales of the 4 brands that will make up the new GM are up consistently. Compared to the first six months of 2009 (admittedly, one of GM's weakest showings) year-to-date sales are up 32% over the same period last year, with a total of 1,069,577 cars sold.
What this shows is that as the economy comes back, GM is poised to come back as well. Corvettes are high-dollar luxury performance cars, and as such sales tend to suffer during economic downturns.
