Memorial Day has come and gone, and now it's the first of June, which means that Cruise-In season has now opened all over the United States and Canada. Bloomington Gold is just four weeks away, and Corvettes at Carlisle will happen in August. If you happen to be near Detroit in August, you can also attend the Woodward Dream Cruise, a huge gathering of the automotive faithful.
However, for most of us, Cruise-In season is the time to get out on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings to show off our 'Vettes at local cruise-ins, car shows, and maybe even a local Concours D'Elegance. You can take your Corvette to a local Cruise-In and win awards if you follow these basic steps.
I love these local events because they are organized by local clubs and they usually benefit a deserving and underfunded local charity. But more than that, there's a wonderful camaraderie at a local Cruise-In - it's not a high stakes game, and if your Corvette (like mine) is old and faded and grungy, you can still bring it out and talk 'Vettes with your fellow enthusiasts. You might even win an award for "Best Unrestored" or "Under Construction" for your efforts.
Wherever you live, chances are you can find a local car show this coming weekend. So get out the shop vacuum and your best wash, wax, and detailing skills and then head to any show. One thing I guarantee is that you'll head home with flyers for at least 10 more shows taking place over the next 4 months, plus a smile on your face from all the compliments you received for your car.
