For all of us who wish we could afford one (or more) of the high-dollar cars crossing the auction block at one of the premier collector car auctions, Mecum Collector Car Auctions has a consolation prize. The auction house has teamed up with a maker of die-cast models to create replicas of top-selling cars, including several Corvettes.
GreenLight Collectibles has produced 1:64 scale (Hot Wheel size) replicas of select high-profile automobiles sold by Mecum at prior auctions. The models have been made in a limited production run of 4,000 units, and each one features an opening hood, detailed engine, real rubber tires, metal body and chassis, detailed graphics and custom license plates.
The limited-edition replica vehicles will be available for sale during Mecum's 23rd Original Spring Classic Auction, May 19-23, 2010, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, or you can get yours online at www.mecumgear.com for $5, plus shipping and fondling charges. Or you can just head to your local Toys "R" Us, KMart, or Meijer store.
